Carboxylic Acid Structure and Chemistry
Carboxylic acids are hydrocarbon derivatives containing a carboxyl (COOH) moiety. Recall that carbon has four valence electrons and therefore requires four electrons or bonds to complete its octet. Based on this valence and bonding order, carbon forms four bonds in its neutral state, and these may be four single bonds or combinations of single and multiple bonds. Oxygen has six valence electron...
متن کاملCarboxylic Acid Production
Carboxylic acids are central compounds in cellular metabolism, and in the carbon cycle in nature. Carbon dioxide is captured from the atmosphere and enters living cells through the formation of carboxylic groups, and it is released from living cells by the decarboxylation of carboxylic acids. The aerobic extraction of free energy from sugars in cellular respiration hinges on the ingeniously des...
متن کاملRuthenium(II) multi carboxylic acid complexes: chemistry and application in dye sensitized solar cells.
Novel ruthenium multi carboxylic complexes (RMCCs) have been synthesized by using ruthenium nitrosyl nitrate, 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid (H4btec) and 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BPhen) as photosensitizers for titanium dioxide semiconductor solar cells. The complexes were characterized by (1)H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, ICP and CHN analyses. The reaction details and features were then de...
متن کاملCharacterization of Carboxylic Acid Reductases as Enzymes in the Toolbox for Synthetic Chemistry
Carboxylic acid reductase enzymes (CARs) meet the demand in synthetic chemistry for a green and regiospecific route to aldehydes from their respective carboxylic acids. However, relatively few of these enzymes have been characterized. A sequence alignment with members of the ANL (Acyl-CoA synthetase/ NRPS adenylation domain/Luciferase) superfamily of enzymes shed light on CAR functional dynamic...
متن کامل3β-Hydroxyfriedelan-17β-carboxylic acid
The title compound, C(30)H(50)O(3), which was isolated from a marine endophytic fungus, is a new friedelan derivative. The mol-ecule contains five six-membered rings, which exhibit boat (ring A), distorted boat (ring B) and chair (rings C-E) conformations. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which link neighbouring mol-ecules into 12-membered rings.
